This years team is Stein, Erling, Arne and Karianne. All members of “Whit comrades – Ulsholmen paddling club”, a gang of friends that have been paddling together for almost 20 years in various configurations with and without kids.
Stein, Karianne and Erling flew to Tromsø, Arne and wife, a son and as friend drove all the way from Oslo with most of our gear.
We still brought luggage on the plane…..
We were hosted in Tromsø by Stein’s friend Alf and his wife Tove. They run Alfa Fritid: a very well assorted kayak shop.
Alf had stored Stein and Erling’s kayaks during the winter. He also volunteered to give Stein’s boat a much needed overhaul. Stein and Erling held their talk about the trip at Alfa Fritid’s premises.
Then it was time to pack. And pack again. And again. Finally we managed to stuff everything in. Usually the cargo shrinks 20% during the first three days as packing improves.
Our host from last year Dag Nilsen also came to listen to the talk, say hello, and offer advice particularly about crossing (or not) Malangen in “Solgangsbris».
Finally, it was time for a short nights sleep. A excellent weather forecast and everyone eager to go.
